A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C004DF92 in VXD VCACHE(01) + 0000019A. The Current Application will be terminated.
Before I go into my problem, I will give some info on my system to you, so it can be more helpful. If
anyone can help me with this problem ***PLEASE*** email jeffb101@concentric.net

PC Fonfiguration

Intel 450mhz Pentium II processor
ABIT BH6 Motherboard (based on 440bx chipset)
128mb of 8ns PC100 SDRAM
MAxtor 10.0 gigabyte, UDMA 7200 RPM hard disk
Graphics Blaster Riva TNT AGP 2X card
Quantum Obsidian X-24 3d Card(2 voodoo2's in SLI mode on 1 board)
Memorex 40x UDMA Cd-Rom
Linksys Etherlan 16 ISA lan Card
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! PCI soundcard

I installed windows 98 full version (the 200$ one, not upgrade), and have been experiencing
problems ever since (PC Is new, I cant verify if it would work on win95.)

When i was installing windows, the first time, I got a fatal error, which caused me to have to reinstall
it.

I soon got it reinstalled, and everything seemed to be working fine. I proceeded to install all my
drivers, when for no reason, out of the blue, I started getting this error in blue screen

A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C004DF92 in VXD VCACHE(01) + 0000019A. The
Current Application will be terminated.

I have no idea what it is, But 1/2 of the time after that error when I reboot I get a fata protection
error or a CONFIGMG error upon trying to enter windows, which results in another reboot.

These errors happen out of the blue, for no reason (When Im in a game, IE UNreal, Q2, there are
no errors, so im fairly sure its not a hardware issue), and it also functions fine in DOS.

I thoughbt it might be a HD error, so i succesfully ran SCANDISK, thouroughly, then went to
defrag.

At 10% through defrag I got that same blue screen error, and restarted windows. I tried to defrag
again and got same thing, then I tried to scandisk again, And strated getting blue screen errors
everytime I scandisk. (I have no bad clusts, and HD does not appear to be damage

CAn anyone offer me any advice on what this error means, if so please email me, i really need help

Hi, I have been having the same problem. Brand new motherboard, new cpu, new harddrive. I suspect that it is a hardware problem. If the CPU has a short in it (or is heating up for some reason) it can cause non-determinate behavior. I do not have another CPU to swap out and test my theory, but I have seen this happen before. It is very frustrating because you spend a lot of time reinstalling software, because it looks like a software glitch. Our systems are unstable due to some hardware malfunction I suspect. I plan to go back to the vendor where I bought the Motherboard/CPU and get them to check them out under loaded conditions (installing Windows 98). I hope this helps.

I had the same problem, with similar hardware. It seems to be a problem witht he memory modules, make sure they are seated correctly and even give them a little wiggle in the slot to make sure all connections are made. Reinstall windows. If the problem occurs in the setup of windows, reseat the memory in a different slot and reinstall again. My system works fine now!

Same here. But, I have a 5-year old Compaq Presario 972 with a 75MHz Pentium. Tried installing the Win98 upgrade over Win95 and got the "blue screen of death." Installed over Win3.11, same thing.

Tried reseating memory, no luck. (8MB's onboard and 2-16MHz in the sockets).

Seems that the problem might be Win98, because my hardware is totally different from others.

I went back to Win95. Works fine.

Thanks

I too am experiencing a Fatal Error 0E with a brand new Win98 machine (PII 350, Asus P2B Mobo, 128 MB DIMM, 16 MB Viper 550) However my errors are not random, they only occur when I try to run certain software titles (Namely Disney's Alladin Activity Centre) I think it has something to do with Windows 95 because this program runs fine under 95 (I think it was designed for 3.11/95, since it is copyrighted 95) Am I on the right track, or would people still suspect the hardware ..... All other games, programs etc run fine.

I just built a machine for a friend with good high quality components from a reputable local component dealer. I used an Intel 440 BX PII motherboard but put a Celeron 400 CPU in it (half the price of equivalent PII). I was a little sceptical of the strange PPGA bridge and fan arrangement that plugged into slot 1 to accomodate the celeron CPU, so when I started to get the fatal OE error in Win98 I suspected my choice of hardware configuration. The problem seemed to appear when the Creative Cd Re-Writer was installed but after 2 or 3 complete re-installs of Win98 I noticed the OE error was still happening (although not as often) without the CD writer installed. It was my first experience with Win98 and I started to suspect Win98, especially from what collegues had told me. One guy who looks after networks advised me to stay well away from Win98 (but I remember hearing the same about Win95 3 years ago). I did a clean install of Win 95 v.b (FAT32 support) and so far everything appears to be fine, although we haven't seriously had time to test the system rigorously.

I'm getting the same message w/ Intel SE440BX motherboard, Pentium II 400, 64MB, STB Glyder Max-2+ running W98, Office 97. It's a brand new install of W98 and all service packs have been installed to no avail. The machine also gives me periodic 0E errors that usually occur after the powersave features kick in. I have tried disabling the powersave but that's when I starting getting the 0E VCACHE error. If you find a solution, please let me know!

I am definitely seeing the same problems with my system: ABIT BH6 ver 1.0A motherboard, PII 350, 64meg SDRAM 100, Soundblaster Live, Creative DVD dxr3, Creative RIVA TNT 16meg, WD Caviar 8.4 HD, Win 98. I get random fatal errors OE 0028, in various VxD drivers and other variations sometimes during bootup, sometimes during shutdown, sometimes while playing some games (Baldur's Gate, Fallout2), once in a while playing DVD movies. I have upgraded the BIOS and drivers on EVERY component in my system to the latest available (motherboard to BIOS 'NV') and even changed out my RAM. I upgraded Win98 to release 2 and downloaded every available critical update from Microsoft. I still get the freaking blue screen randomly. It's enough to make me think about switching to an iMac, despite the lack of certain cool software (games). I'm a lead programmer by trade and I tend to agree with the idea it may just be Win98: I use a Compaq PII450 at work using NT4; I load and unload lots of heavy duty programs (Visual Studio, graphics apps, etc.) and can leave my machine running for WEEKS without having to reboot once.

Ok, I used to get that 0E fatal error in 0028:............ in VXD:VMM with a VIA 503+ MB w/AMD K62/450 CPU. Random blue screens, no reason I could determine. The fix (on that system, at least) related to cooling or processor speed, one of the two. When I lowered the CPU speed from 450mhz to 400mhz I stopped getting the problem altogether. Try it!

everybody go back to win95 with usb support. Nobody seemps to be able to solve this problem and friends of mine are asking me the same questions with BRAND NEW (1-3 week old) machines running win98 sec. ed. You can point the finger at anything from hardware/hardware conflicts and faulty RAM faulty Video RAM and device driver conflicts. I have just read most of the June 2000 TECHNET. If you can get a copy - this may give you pointers - it is pretty detailed though and may get confusing to the newbies :-) I have been searching for a while now with not much joy. Blue screens of death seem to be everywhere (lots with the Riva tnt2 agp cards from nvidia) TRY complete format and reinstall of win98 then latest drivers for hardware/video TRY replacing RAM with new DIMMS/SIMMS TRY searching with blue error code on www.dogpile.com IF ALL ELSE FAILS "TRY" format and reinstall of win95.
