Virus w32netsky invaded my computer. My anti virus program called Freedom detected the viruses but said "Virus detected, could not disinfect and file deleted. Several of these messages were received and each time a file was deleted and all from windows. Except one which was freedom.exe which was the application file for the Anti Virus program.
When I booted up the machine would boot up right up past the Windows 98 screen up to the desk top but instead of the icons a message would come up saying Errors detected etc and will shut down or words to that effect. That is as far as it would go.
I was told to reinstall Windows 98 using another folder called Win98. I did this and eventually was able to get back on the internet and this is where I am now. However, all the programs had to be reinstalled but some will not reinstall such as Office 2000 (it just quits) The USB bord goes in correctly but am unable to load the printer and driver.
My C drive is partitioned C D and E. I moved the old windows completely over to the E drive and that is where it is at this time.
MY QUESTION IS: Can I move the old windows back to drive C and fix it or would I have to reformat drive C and lose some of my programs.

You must remove netskey - go to symantec.com and download the removal tool . run it, (note how many occurences of the virus it finds) reboot, reload windows and a lot will come back - office won't reload because you didn't uninstall it but it will probably be ok. the more files that were affected the more you will have to reload. if you have to reload office, try the uninstall first.

sometimes it is just easier to reformat and reload. good luck and you have our sympathy.

Thank you very much for your much needed advice. I ran Symantec w32nesky removal. It did not show any sign of the viruses.
You mentioned uninstalling Office 2000. Unfortunately I have a NEW OS and an OLD OS.
The old Windows 98 is on my E drive as I moved it from my C drive after I reinstalled Windows 98 to another folder called Win98.
Of course the old programs do not show up on the NEW OS under "Add and Remove"
I would like to try the OLD Windows 98 which I now have on the E drive back on the C drive
and perhaps Fix it. This would put two OS on the C drive, the NEW and the OLD. Perhaps you might have some advice about this. Your assistance is very much appreciated.
