Uh, "jiffy" - - admin passwords aren't really involved in Win98
This is an all too common complaint upon a fresh installation. The correct video drivers are required. If the display adapter is unknown, Everest can help identify it.
In the case of name brand packages, try the manufacturer's site
Censorship is the tool of those who have the need to hide actualities from themselves and others. Their fear is only their inability to face what is real.

As jboy said the best bet is the manufacturers website if applicable.
Here's a link to the last free version of Everest:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_e...When you run it look under Display/Windows Video (there may even be a link to the driver website).
PS. Contrary to fairly popular belief it's laptop not labtop.

whenever my win2k laptop (used to be 98se) starts to boot up it does the same thing but after 2000 loads it fixes and i still don't know why that happens. it dosen't happen on my desktop(os=2k). with your computer it may be built into the bios since the bios handles the screen.

Well the poster seems to have elected not to come back and update us anyhow (pity).
As I see it the only effect BIOS has on "display" is whether you have onboard display enabled or an external card. It would have no other affect on desktop display size, which is a function of Windows loading. The usual reason for these problems is missing or outdated Video drivers, although in this case there could be some screen hardware issue.
My W98SE works just fine without any of these problems. If you care to post your difficulties in a new thread maybe someone can assist.
