I am trying to upgrade my old burner with a new one. Suddenly, I am getting VxD errors and the Blue Screen Of Death during boot up. I have tried all combos ( primary slave, secondary master, slave, etc ) and no luck. Here's the kicker: I can plug my CD roms into same combo and no problem. It only happens on the new CD RW and the old burner which has run on this system for years. I have gone into Device manager and removed all cdroms, have checked BIOS and have checked drive controllers on device manager as well. I'm stumped. Any thoughts? Thanks !

The OS should see the burner as just another cdrom. If you're sure the connections and jumpers are correct then the problem must be with the new burner. Consider taking it back and getting a different one.

If (?) you are saying that you have uninstalled your old burner, replaced it with a new one and are getting problems:
Go to c:\windows\system\iosubsys
Look carefully at the drivers there, using file Properties. If any from your old burner are there then they should be deleted, otherwise they are liable to cause problems.
