My Laptop is an old satterlite pro, its grey and was built at least ten years ago. All i need is windows 98 and media player 9 and i'l be happy. A little while ago it stoped letting me in to the computer all together. I tried running it many times and it would Just jam at the point were it said "Starting Windows 98" at the top right of the screen. After i had tried to start too many times to count it eventually let me into the section were it ses
"start windows in safe F3
start windows in normal mode F2"
etc etc. i selected safe mode...and then it jammed. And so it went on untill one day while it was jamming on the "Starting Windows 98" bit it suddenly showed me the folling message.
"The Following File Is Missing Or Corrupted
:c:\Windows\HIMEM.SYS
File Creation Error
c:\>
c:\>'
Bad Command Or File Name
c:\>
c:\>h
My friend took it of my hands and gave it to his dad who at one point worked on computers but quit for stress level reasons. He mannaged to compleytely wipe the memory(he ses although I think he means as close as u can get to wiping the memory completely) but is now saying I need to things. Floppy disk drive were the CD-Rom drive is and the windows 98 boot up floppy???
Basicly on tho base of the laptop there is a flap with a swich inside. If u move the swich the CD-Rom drive pops out and i should have an identical Floppy Drive. I don't have an identical floppy drive.
So my question is after all of that...can u get a windows 98 boot-up CD-Rom

Hi Kim,

Yes, you can get a boot CD.

You will need another working PC to make the CD.

Get a w98se boot disk here:

www.bootdisk.com

Fire up the CD creator sofware, like Nero, an select 'make boot CD'

It will ask you for the boot floppy.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
