Hi,
I have an Intel 865GBF motherborad, and the following drives:
IDE
Primary Master:40GB HDD (old, has my C:)
Secondary Master:CD-RW
Secondary Slave:CD-ROM
SATA
:WD 80GB HDD (newly installed)

Ever since I put in the new SATA drive, Windows 98 boots up to the logo, then the logo goes away and then nothing more happens. My other OS is Win XP which has always been running fine.
In the legacy mode(see below), 98 is running properly, but I have to chose between having SATA or my CD drives (even in XP).

The reason I mention my motherboard is that it has two drive options:
Enhanced: All SATA and PATA enabled
Legacy: It gives me the options of:
--->IDE Pri & Sec only
--->SATA only
--->SATA and IDE Pri
--->SATA and IDE Sec
There is no option for SATA & IDE Pri & Sec, ie. all of them. You see that none of the options match the drives I have on the system, and I have a feeling that Win98 works only in the legacy mode.

Earlier when I had only the IDE HDD, Win98 would run normally in Legacy mode. In Enhanced mode, it would say that my drives are running in MSDOS compatibility mode(in the performance tab), but was working fine in all respects.

I read on these forums that removing the file c:\windows\system\iosubsys\esdi_506.pdr would help. I renamed it and now Win98 does start in the Enhanced bios setting, but now my CDROM drives are not available and the device manager shows the yellow bang! in front of Pri & Sec fifo controllers.

Is there any way to get all the drives working together?
Will I have to discard my CDROM, and put my CD-Writer as a slave to my HDD to run in Legacy SATA+IDE Pri? (will using it as a slave affect the HDD/writer performance too?)
Can I atleast get my all drives to run together in MSDOS compatibility mode again?
If I use only WinXP, I have no problems, but i dont want to do that:)

Thanks in advance.

Rohit

Is this Windows 98 SE? Earlier versions of Windows DO NOT support SATA.
