You can get serial mice here:

I don't know what you mean by a combo mouse.

A combo mouse has a PS2 connector, and also comes with an adapter which plugs into a serial port. Thus it can be used on different interfaces.

I'll bet you can buy a cheap used serial mouse (or two?) at any computer repair shop. They might even give you one in the hopes of getting a future customer.

Im a really poor person. Im only 14 and I didn't even get my working papers yet. My mom just gets by to pay the bills and it got harder because my dad just recently died. I would go out and buy a new mouse but i have no means of transportation and no money at all. I know this mouse works I just don't know how to install it. please help me.

Hi Peter,
I'm kinda on the poorer side too. You didn't say what broke on that serial mouse, so here's a hint.
Remove the ball. On the underside of most of those mice, there's a label, that hides a single phillips type screw. Remove the screw, and very carefully seperate the top and bottom of the mouse. Look inside, being careful you know were all the wheels and shafts go.
If your lucky, it just might be a lot of foreign junk built up. Clean carefully, and reassemble.
No harm in trying. Staying with a serial mouse is your best bet..Jack

Peter, have you tried loading the software drivers you downloaded through your autoexec.bat? Or any serial mouse driver for that matter. If you need some dos level drivers I can put them up on my webspace for you to download. Once they're loaded into dos before windows starts to run, 95 may pick it up. Worth a shot.

I dont have any serial mouse drivers. I lost my mouse disk thing when I was moving. What serial modem drivers should I install? Also I have installed new com ports on the motherboard and enabeled them with the cmos setup thing. I don't know which IRQ the com ports need. I also have a serial card. I have tried getting the mouse to work through that but it doesn't work. Oh yeah in case your wondering where i got the othger com ports i found them in an old computer that my aunt had given me for spare parts and stuff. well anyways I don'tknow what to do anymore and this is getting really frustrating. I thank you for your help.

Peter, I've uploaded MOUSE.ZIP to my webspace for you.

http://www.cyberus.ca/~danpenny/

There are three dos level mouse drivers in it. CTMOUSE, (very basic and not what I perceive as stable but it works on low activity operations) GMOUSE, and MOUSE. (For MOUSE there are two files, the .sys one is to be loaded via config.sys.) I recommend GMOUSE. Load gmouse.com in your c:\autoexec.bat file.

eg; LH E:\MOUSE\GMOUSE (this represents my drive/path, so alter it to suit where you place the files.)

If you have any problems or things aren't clear, be sure to post back. There's lots of help here.
