well iv decided to run windows 95. now, the only problem is, i dont have usb. 98 is just really starting to piss me off, windows protection errors even after reloading i keep getting them. im not even doing anything o.O. so anyway, i pulled the drive out and put back in my 95 drive (4gb) all i want this laptop for is so i can write up documents and save them. but... i wanna be able to use my USB thumb drive. i know 95 doesnt have very "mature" usb support, so i wanted to know if it would be possible to do what they did with 98SE2ME where they transplant some of the main USB support stuff over to 98. if this is possible please tell, if its not, just say it isnt, and i wont even bother with the usb drive. but it will mean i need to take a dam floppy drive with me lol. i hate that, cuz my backpack is small and i cant fit it in there. thanks a lot to anyone who leaves a message

some versions of windows 95 don't offer USB support at all, my assumption is that you need to find a version of win 95 that offers USB support. It will say USB support on the front of the case.

"some versions of windows 95 don't offer USB"

Read the specs timmy - he has OSR 2.5

Check it out at the site mentioned, but USB is marginal under 95, and you would likely require a specific driver.

No harm in trying, but if you're having problems with 98, 95 is probably not the cure - likely you've a hardware or configuration issue (or else you're doing something wrong). With only 32Mb though, 98 would not run all that swiftly (but it should run)

windows 98 runs, and its alright, but i just cant stand the problems anymore. your probably right in the fact that its a hardware thing because 98 runs (or ran) fine on my dell latitude cp untill i sold it, and it ran fine on my inspiron 7000 too. (upgraded that one to XP) its only on this armada 1700 its running badly. 95 runs great on it. i just wish it had USB, i have the USB hub loaded, i just need a driver for my usb memory key. i pointed windows to the 98 driver for it, but it wont load sayin it has a hardware failure. im really greatful for the replies guys, computing.net always has been my favourite forum. :)

update : i just installed windows 98 SE but i used 98lite with the sleek GUI and boy what a difference. runs like mad, its so fast now. and with 87% resources free. not like 95's 97% but its way better than 40 - 70% with windows 98. if i could get 95 working with my usb key id be sooo much happier, but this will do. i even stole the 95 logo's and put them on this 98 install. now i just wanna change all the branding so it all says windows 95. i always did like windows 95, such a more simpler OS. thanks a lot again guys.

I have found some drivers for memory keys. contact me privately for further help.

If you are really happy with the Win95 experience, then you should try to use Win95.

But you should definitely add some more RAM. This will not only improve speed but also stability.
