Ok, I'm new to this so don't blame me if something on the exact OS is wrong. Anyways I want to downgrade my IBM T41 to Windows 95 because it would be quicker and I don't have any thing that needs directX 9 anyways. The problem is IBM does not have drivers for Windows 95 and I need them. Does anyone know where I can get drivers for this computer? The most important ones are audio, and video driver. Which is a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 and SoundMAX audio driver.

Why do you think 95 will make your laptop run faster?

95 will cripple that machine...stay with 98se as a minimum os.

Sure - whatever performance gains might by made by switching to 95, you would lose considerable functionality & compatibility. More and more software just won't work on 95 (and likely expect the same for 98, down the road)

If your machine is 'slow' (with those specs!), there must be a root cause

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Agree with t'others, stay with '98 and resolve the slow running issues. It would be worth time/effort to see what's running in the background that may be slowing up the system?

The '98 msconfig util may help in this regard? A couple of "useful" links re' msconfig. The second one is probably more helpful/clearer in this regard?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q281965/

http://www.islandnet.com/~buzz/msconfig.htm

(If you have Norton anti-virus util running that may be one problem; many regard it as resource hog... There are other a/v utils that aren't so hoggy/hungry....)

Again msconfig should at least list everything that's running; and might be useful to post those details here so folks can give more useful info/advice?

Windows 95 is great for machnes slower than 133 Mhz and or less than 32MB ram. If the specs in your original post are correct, your computer should run fine with XP or like a rocket with 98.

Downgrading your OS will speed up your system, but only until you pick up the same crud that has hobbled your current system. This may be as little as two days.
