win.com file is missing

hi all,

after i installing antivirus software on my win98 client machine,when i go for restart it shows win.com file is missing.its working fine in safe mode.even in safe mode i remove the antivirus and even windows is not starting properly.

ALL YOUR HELP AND SUGGESTIONS ARE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

Without win.com, you wouldn't be starting Windows at all, not even in Safe Mode

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

jboy's right (as always). Win.com is the program that starts windows loading, without it you would not even get the menu that allows you to enter safe mode. You would be left at the dos prompt (C:\>).

Have another look and post back the real error message.

Not quite. The MS Startup Menu is embedded within IO.SYS.

Dan is correct. But you still need win.com to start windows (safe mode or not).

Whilst I don't enjoy being wrong, it is better that you corrected me and I'll try not to give incorrect information in the future. I learnt windows on a 3.1 system. Some things have changed since then!

If this thread is not another red herring. It might be worth knowing which antispyware program led to this problem. Mazlan, could you also post back with that?
