This is my last option to fix the computer. When I start my computer I get the message that the win.com file is missing or currupt and windows cannot continue to load. Please, please, please can someone email me with the file that I need. I have tried to look on my boot disk, but can't find it there. If anyone could just send me the file I need, I would be very thankful

Boot to dos and type
dir c:\windows\win.com
That will tell you if it's really missing or not.

-install winzip (you need it to extract the file from your win98 cdrom
-rightclick your cdrom drive in explorer
-click find
in the second field ("Containing text") type this: win.cnf
-click Find now
-when the cab file of your language version appears: doubleclick it.
-now winzip should start and come up with all the files that are in this cab file
-search in the row of files for: win.cnf
-click on it once, and then click at the top of winzip on the EXTRACT button
-have it extract to c:\windows (or to a floppy, to be able to copy it to your own computer)

Hi

Hmmmm - where to start. Well it could be a missing win.com file - but the odds it is a missing file, are not at all good.

Someone could send you a file, there is the problem that everyone who reads the question might send you the file, so most won't so your email box won't overflow.

ok - you won't find the file on your boot disk. Go to c drive and type dir win.* /s

[Type]

c:

dir win.* /s

Let us know the result.(the size and date of win.com if a version is there )

also

dir *.* /ah

Let us know what number is beside the msdos.sys file. (ie file size)

In your case its probable that a program did not execute a command that allows for other commands to locate win.com
