I'm having problems installing Win98 on a friends PC. Once I fdisk and format, on installation of Win98, I get an error message stating that only 24 MB of drivespace exits, and that Win98 requires 250 MB; the hard drive is a 20GB hard drive. What am I doing wrong doing the fdisk or formatting processing??

Are you sure FDISK is using all of the drive on 1 partition, and that it is 20GB?

I would boot up with your win98 boot disk and then at the command prompt type:

Fdisk /pri:20000 1. This will make a primary partition of 20 gig on drive one. then reboot the computer and boot up to the boot disk again and type:

format c:

Hope this helps

Does the BIOS recognise the full size of the drive many PII had a 8GB limit. If that is the case go to the drive manufacturers web site and download the drive overlay software, this will allow Windows to see the full size of drive. Though BIOS will still state it is wrong.

Check to see if there has been a BIOS update as well as this may help!
