Hello i bought a new barebone system i went in and set the BIOS settings to the specs in instructions I.E so the first boot would be CD-rom ect ect. when i boot up everything seems to go ok till i get to the C:/ prompt then im suppose to put the Driver CD in so i can load the drivers for the mother board it should Auto run but it dosent and if i try to change the C: prompt to D: to do setup exe. i get invalid drive specification it says that if Auto run doesnt happen. to put CD in and find PATH.DOC file in the root directory but i dont know where or how to do this to install the motherboard drivers. Also when i shut off the power with the power switch the CPU & case fans dont shut off the only way to shut them off is to unplug the power cord from the wall.when it boots it looks like it detects the CD-rom,floppy,and HD ok at least there listed on the screen if you hit the pause button any help would be appreciated thank you for your time.P.S you dont have to have the OS loaded first to do the motherboard drives do you?

YES, You need to install the OS first and then load the motherboard drivers. Also with the shut off problem i would take it back to where you bought it and have them correct the problem. Unpluging it is NOT good on the CPU.

You need a windows start up (floppy) disk to load the dos drivers for the cdrom.

What does this mean: I.E

If you would read through your note before posting it would make it easier on us that want to help. Its like reading William Faulkner with no spellchecker.

I would not worry about the fans right now. Once win98 is loaded you may have some shutdown issues to troubleshoot anyway so might as well wait.

You should run fdisk and then format and then install win98. Use fdisk to create two partitions, C and D. Then format both from dos using your win98 boot disk. Then copy your win98 install cd to the D drive in a folder named "win98cab". Then run setup.exe from that folder. Some say its a waste of space but I prefer to have everything on the hard drive. This method will allow you to reinstall win98 on C directly from D, something you will likely have to do some time in the future.
