I recently upgraded my Computer and I encountered a problem while entering or clicking a program...the harddisk seems to jam there....and got to wait for 1min then can load again...is there any patch file for win98...cos i am using AMD_K6-350

There is a patch on the microsoft web page that will fix the timing issue you are facing. Just search the MS page for AMD and you should see it

I believe that patch is for Win95 and AMD chips 350MHz and up. As far as I know, it is not needed for Win98. Wouldn't hurt to check it out though...

I'm having the same problems but i have a 300mhz system, and I can't seem to do anything, it just says I have a Kernnel32 ERror, and shuts down my system... and Its pissin me off, and about to be tossed outa the window... If there is a patch, I need it.. Email me with some info please, if you have it.

I have Win98 with an AMD K6-2 400, and I am having problems with my sound and USB. I got a SB Live! Value in the system when I bought it, but it made a crackly scratchy sound under directsound, so I bought a USB add in card for my VA-503+ MB, but the sound is still there, and the system hangs after about 10-15 minutes if the speakers are in USB mode. The sound in normal windows mode is fine, it's just the DirectSound that's the problem. Then I can't get Descent: Freespace to detect my USB joystick because it dies when I click the joysticks tab in the setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem of Win98 and AMD-K6-350 or above only occurs with Win98 Second Edition.
Regarding problem related to AMD and Win98SE, you can refer to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q240/0/75.ASP. The solutions are available there as well.

I have USB-monitor Nokia 446XS, but unfortunately I have WIN98 (not SE) and AMD K6/2-350MHz and my USB don't work. My motherboard is ASUS P5A-B. What can I do to get my USB-port to work??? There is no IRQ error and everything seems to be allright!

I have an AMD-k6/2 400 and windows 98. I have 64 SDRAM 100 and 32 SDRAM 66 The guys that sold the processor gave upp after one week around my computer... any way I read my mainboard manual and learned how to manipulate the switches for changing the setting for CPU host clock, Times of multiple clock & PCI clock ratio - frequency of the processor (I have it now at 83.3 x 4.5=375 ). I read at AMD site, that for my mainboard they do not advise more than AMD K6/2 350, although A-Trend (mainboard) advises a maximum of 400. Also read some tests which showed the importance of the mainboard in combination with the processor AMD for a good performance. My motherboard was 30% slower than the best in test. Also read that AMD considers always the SDRAM at 100 mhz even if they are not, like in my case. This means that you have to lower the CPU host clock to achieve a stability in your system. Well I made it and I am happy I can wait a while for the next uppgrading (when PIII prices go down):-)
By the way, The USB was not activated at my BIOS, so be aware that you will have to change your BIOS cdonfiguration if you want to use your USB.
I just bought an externat CDR philips 4x4x6x with a USB cable and was very surprise to find out that I can only record at 2x speed. The test my software runs tells me this and I wonder if I need a fix or patch for making my USB faster. My system should be more then enough to record with 4x, but it doesn't. If someone can help me with this I would appreciate. Thanks in advance!

Help!! I overclocked my AMD-k6-2-533 to 550, seems no problem to me! Only win98 gives an error at startup IOS failure. Known problem for win95 but new for win98?? Who knows the answer?? Please mail me.

I'm having similar problems with my PC too - I have a AMD K6 450 with 64mb sdram, SBlive platinum card and windows 98 second edition running on it - I keep getting those horrendous "krnl386.exe" messages and a "fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:c0005338 in vxd vmm (01) + 00004338. The current application will be terminated" messages.
When I try to click out of them - it won't let me - So I have to end up reseting the machine. This happens most in IE5 when I'm downloading something and even in Dreamweaver3 and various graphics packages I have - I don't know what I have to do to stop this but if anyone can tell me of a patch that will fix the problem then I would be very gratefull.

I have put a k62-450 on 100mhz aliddin motherboard but i get a vmm32.vxd error while running win98 se. and the chip only works de clocked at 333mhz
need help?

I have a k62 300, overclocked to 350 and now while running win98 se explorer crashes, and says it has encountered an internal error?? what is with that? I didnt think it would effect anything on my pc by overclocking by 50mhz...anyone got an answer?

I have Windows ME and Amd-K6/2-500MHz with the Asus P5A-B baby AT motherboard. When I put my computer on, and launch sisoft sandra2000 test program/cpu benchmark, I got very low points. Only 211/232, while it should be 1127/630. Sometimes it slowly rises in a while up to the normal, but I really don't understand what's wrong with it. I have tested almost everything, but nothing seems to help. I have downclocked my processor, but it gives excactly the same results. The processor is not broken, because it worked fine on my friendīs computer. Can anyone help me, please... Mail me!!!!

windows keeps locking up, it'll reboot, or give me a vxd error, with the blue screen of death, is there a patch out there for wins 98 that should resolve the issue?

wassup everyone,
I have a solution to probably most of you guys problem. I have a AMD k6-2/350 and a Soyo 5-ema board w/ an award BIOS version 4.51.Most of you probably have an award Bios. But anyway, I had the same problem too especially the kernel32.dll to death crash.
What I did i went into the BIOS and turned off the second cache item. I think it's the external cache on the BIOS settings screen.
After I did this I don't recall ever seeing that crash ever again. now i can download with peace of mind.Good luck

I have had a Win98 with Amd-k6-350 with an Amibios since 10/99. It ran well initially but even with 128 meg of ram I started to have crash after crash. The system is used primarily for wordprocessing and internet. I was about to buy a new unit because of the crashing problem. Since it was almost always a function of kernel32.dll stack dumping I even went to kernel32.com. They admitted that it was a frequent problem and suggested 10 ways of correcting it. Each with a slim to none chance of success according to the powers that be on the site. One was the bios potential. It wasn't well explained, and did not equate it with the AMD K6-2 chip, But it gave it a warning and did not explain what to consider in the course of the bios. Oscar Allen's report in the previous post was a God sent. I spoke with my computer literate son who advised against the external cashe elimination stating I would lose 30-40% of computer speed if I did it. I did it anyway, and although it was only a short while ago I have not seen much change in the computer's performance doing what I do, and best of all so far no more crashes. Thanks Oscar you saved me a lot of heartache.
