How do I get windows to allow me to select the proper resolution for my widescreen monitor? I have installed the drivers but this has not helped. Its an acer AL1916W 19 inch widescreen.

thanks

Have you installed both the "video drivers" and the "monitor drivers"?

Yes I have, and I forgot to mention that the video card is an intel 815 graphics chip.

Dunno. Just wonder if onboard graphics hardware might pre-date widescreen but it's only a guess.

Without looking up the limitations of the 815 chip, I would suggest you try allocating more memory to it. This is done in the CMOS settings. The default setting is usually about 8 MB. Perhaps 16 or 32MB will allow the drivers room to move.

Of course in doing so, windows will have less memory to work with

I checked in the bios and there is no option to increase the amount of memory allocated to video.

the i815/i810 graphics do not support widescreen resolutions. Not even in XP.

I have a file server with i815 graphics hooked up to the 2nd input on my widescreen monitor...the best I can do is 1280x1024 (the monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050)

Check out my flickr stream.

#6 doesn't surprise me too much. As far as I know 815 was about year 2000 and I think widescreen came along after that.
