I have win98 on my laptop and I need to upgrade to WIN98SE. My 3 1/2 drive is not working properly so I will need a direct download or a CD. I can not use my jump drive because I do not have WIN98SE. Can anyone provide assistance?

.... or put another way, you need a W98SE CD. There's no such thing as a legal download (even if you can find one).
Check out eBay.

There are two CDs that will change win98FE to win98SE.
One is the normal Win98SE 'Upgrade' CD.
The other is a Win98SE 'Update' CD. The latter is much cheaper but has a drawback. It will only run from an operational Win98FE system. It will not run from Dos.

If you have a desk top unit and the 98SE CD you should be able transfer the cab files to the laptop using the cable connection function of WIN98. I installed WIN98SE on a laptop by copying all of the cab files from my desktop's CD directly to the laptop using an old program called "LapLink" which runs under DOS. All I needed was a 98SE boot disk to start both computers in dos, run the laplink program and copy all of the files over using a cable between the two computers. Laplink would use either the printer ports or Com ports with the printer ports faster. AFter the cab files were transfered WIN98SE was installed from the laptop's own hard drive.

Maybe I'm mis-reading the original post but it seems to me that a W98SE CD is not available.

You said that you :
"can not use my jump drive because I do not have WIN98SE."
I would say that you can use the Jump Drive.
I have a Lexar JumpDrive and the drivers say that Windows 98SE is required, But I have installed the Jump Drive Drivers on My
Windows 98 FE and it works with no problems!
Have you tryed installing the drivers?

Hello everyone,
Hi Trvlr,
It's a mobile storage device that connects to a USB port. The device is about the size of a key. The one I have holds 1GB of data.
Hi LOWE,
I suggest trying to loading the drivers as JPW stated, it certainly won't hurt.
Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Mesich:
Tak for the info.
Is that what I seegenerally/frequently referred to a USB stick etc; i.e. a small solid state RAM stick comes in multiples of 64Meg (or more commonly these days multiples of 128Meg)???
Recently acquired one of those (256Meg) for general shipping of assorted data around my parts of the universe; very hand item...
Might even get into an iPod or similar - one day (must'nt rush things...)

Hello everyone,
Hi Trvlr,
Yeah, same thing. Had someone call and say they couldn't find the drivers for their "Sandisk". After checking it out I found it was also a flash usb device, usb stick, jump drive, or Sandisk. :-)
They were running WinXp and was having the same problem as LOWE finding the drivers. I loaded the Win2K drivers and it worked like a champ.
Best Regards,
Mesich
