To All Fellow Win98 Users in the year 2008,
While there is nothing more useless than a whole bunch of programs starting up when our computer’s starts up, doesn’t matter which version of Windows we are running, for this just slows down our computer’s start up time.
And while yes, I was able to figure out most of what I wanted to be checked and un-checked on the Startup tab under MSCONFIG, I was not really sure of what Win98 Systems files should be running on start up and which once could be un-checked to speed up my start up time, for not only are some of these programs with icons are next to our clock, but there are other programs that should run on startup with no icons next to our clock!
Well I’m happy to report that I found a very good comprehensive list that is (3) web pages long that not only list all the major entries, but also with a complete explanation of each one and what it is for and a recommendation of if it should or should not be checked on start up. This link is @…..
http://mikescomputerinfo.com/startu...
And it was of so much help for me.
So you just might want to click on “Start”, click on “Run” and type in msconfig and click on the Startup Tab and just see what is starting up on your computer that doesn’t really need to be starting up when you fire up your Win98 computer from the list above.

Just Trying To Help Other Win98 Users

Thanks for the link. Yea, I've always been pretty anal about background programs that start up but actually do nothing I want or care about. The main reason I still use Windows 98 is that I like the 30 second boot up as versus waiting 2 minutes for 2000 or XP. Why mess that up with a bunch of useless cruft?
