Hi.
For no apparent reason windows insists on starting at the Win 98 start up menu screen and I have to select normal start up from the six options to continue. I shut down last time as normal but every time I start the pc now this screen appears. Any fix would be greatly appreciated.
Running.
Win 98 (FE)
333Mhz Processor
128 MB Ram.
Many thanks in advance.
Len

It's probably due to an entry in MSDOS.SYS which is a plain text file in the root of C:
The file is read-only, system and hidden so to be able to edit it you will need to change its attributes. You can right-click the file and select properties and uncheck the attributes. Load the file into notepad and look for the line:
BootMenu=1

This means Boot menu = true so, delete this line or comment it out by putting a semi-colon at the start of the line. Remember to change the file's attributes back and reboot.

Len, You Should open "Run" in Start Menu and type "Msconfig" (No Quotes). Then in the "General" tab select the "Advanced" Button. A Box will appear. In this box Untick "Enable Startup Menu" and i mean Untick. Click "Ok" to close the window nad Click "OK" to close the "System Configuration Utility" it will ask to Restart the computer. Please Restart it. Please reply to me at "alintanfern@yahoo.com".

Problem fixed.The last time I booted I didn't enter the option to start in normal mode and the pc booted the another desktop (which nobody uses) and behold when I checked the setting on that desktop the show start menu box was enabled! All is fine now.
Thankyou all for taking the time to reply.
