Whenever I click on start and go to programs, as soon as the menu expands to the right, the PC crashes and I have to reboot.
This doesn't ever happen when I do anything else including games. Haven't installed any new progs and there are no conflicts.
Please someone help

Can you be a little more detailed? *How* exactly does it crash? Blue screen? Just freezes? Can you still use the mouse and/or keybaord?

It just freezes. No you can't use the keyboard anymore. It happens every time I click on start and go to programs. The first few progs appear in the menu to the right and then it freezes!!!

The easiest way to fix this is to reinstall Windows "on top of itself". You won't lose any of your files and it will repair the problem (usually).

Reinstalling Windows? Sounds like using a sledge hammer to build a bird-house.
-Create a folder on the desktop called "temp"
-Go into c:\windows\start menu\programs
-Move one item out of the Programs folder at a time to the temp folder on the desktop
-Open the start > programs folder again.
-If it still freezes (you can still move the mouse, right?) then move that item back from the temp folder to the programs folder.
-Repeat the process until the problem is resolved. Also, try booting into safe mode and see what happens.

Brent .. in general I tend to agree with you although if the Programs folder is anything like mine, your process will take just about as much time as a quick Windows re-install. But, even then, your solution is not guaranteed to work (moving items one at a time to \temp and back again) if the shortcut being FUBAR is the culprit. The real problem is that the list maintained by Windows of the Programs folder (in the order that the user selected) is crapola and needs to be rebuilt. I don't know of any utility that will do that. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
