I've got a win98 pc that is taking a very long time to show the network sign on box. The "server" that it is connecting to is only a Windows 2000 professional box running ICS. There are three other win98 clients connecting the same way without any delay in the prompting for network password. This pc can take up to 5 minutes to ask for username and password.
I've removed the network card settings, uninstalled the driver and reinstalled everything, and it improved for the first logon, but now has gone back to doing the same thing. I've checked all the normal things, ie. for a virus or spyware etc.
if anyone has maybe come across this before, can you please let me know what else you did to resolve it?
Thank you for any comments you can provide.
Dean.

I'd try swapping the cable with a new one. Also make sure that the cable isn't next to some kind of motor or fluorescent light.
