i know this is a common problem, but it seems like ive tried everything, here is kind of an annoyingly detailed desciption, if you help me fix my problem you will have saved my life, thank you in advance:
i have a computer which used to run win95, and im trying to upgrade to 98SE. after i formatted for my clean install, the OS installed ok. now i run it and everything is fine. i have the ATI vid driver loaded, sound was automatic with installation. it was shutting down at this point. after i went to windows update- it wont shut down. i went through the add remove program list- removed all programs one by one searching for the one which gave me this problem. all programs and updates removed, still wont shutdown. i applied the patched which are supposed to fix- no results. does anyone have anything for me to go on??? thank you very much

There are a few patches for that problem with SE. The most common is 4756US8. Do a google search and then download and run it. Post back if you have further problems.

More help if needed here .
