I use a shared machine at work, its set up using Microsoft Family Logon and I can’t change that, my question is, is there any way for me to have a secure/personal folder which I only I can access (or at least modify)? I ask this because although I have my own “my documents and desktop” these are accessible though explorer (C:\windows\profiles) to any one! I’ve noticed that the only folder which seems to be inaccessible to users other that the one logged on is Temporary Internet Files, which although being there shows the contents of the current users folder, is there any way to copy this function?

I’d prefer a setting in Windows to new software, as I don’t have the rights to install new stuff (though that won’t stop me if it’s the only solution). I’d also prefer not to use Magic folders or the like, as I do at home, because I don’t want to be accused of trying to hide something! A simple password protected folder is all I need. At the moment I have to carry around floppy disks whenever I need to save something important which is rather annoying.

Thanks in advance.
Graham

Windows 98 has no real security abilities...
It sounds like you are on a network at work and they should have a folder set up for you on one of the servers...that folder should be a private folder and accessable only by you AFTER you log into the network...

Talk with your administrator...

Are you working in Word or Excel? Most office programs have the ability to lock individual files.

Lou I have that access denied program and it yes it is great but mine locks out the whole pc and I don't think he wants that. There is a program that will do a simple 32bit encryption on your folder. No one will know the better of it. It looks normal and anyone can open the folder but when they try to open the files they get nothing but jibberish and when they try to open an image it will say cannot read header. I use it and when I get off the computer I encrypt my whole folder which usually is around 30-50mbs big because I have all my website data and genealogy stuff in it too besides personal data like emails and such. If you email me I can give you a little more info on it. It is called: STEALTH. You can also find it on my downloads page at my website.
