Just wondering. How did Windows 98 Second Edition improve the first edition of Win98? What does Win98SE have to offer that regular old Win98 doesn't?

This discription is kinda balenced :
http://www.windowsgalore.com/windows.98/win982.index.htm
and another :

Mostly i guess; better usb and firewire support. Some application programs require 98se over 98fe, i don't know why. If you have 98fe then look for an UPDATE CD to 98se which can be had inexpensive (~$20) at eBay.

Strange answer to posters question, could be given to practically any question on this forum. Not so sure XP would be much cop on PenII 128M RAM anyway.Muka
Your question is not related to what is being discussed in this thread. Make a new post by going to Windows 95/98 at top left of page. You will then get better attention.Derek.W

Difference between Win98 & Win98SE.

Agree with Derek,
WinXP is resource hungry. I am right now having mere 64MB ram...win98 works just fine for me.
XP on this machine? I can almost LOL at response 1.

I had Win98FE and bought a Sony Digital Video Camera (HandyCam).
The instructional manual states the minimum requirement to upload the video and the audio was Win98SE. It specified that with only Win98FE it would not upload the audio with the video.
I tried it anyway. Sure enough, all I got was video and no sound was uploaded.
For this single reason I acquired a Win98SE Upgrade CD from my brother in law whom had since got a new machine with XP on it. He didn't need the Win98SE Upgrade CD anymore.
I upgraded to Win98SE (by running the CD from within Windows) and low and behold, I now get sound with the video when I upload it from the camera.
Another instance...I was wanting to install a new and secondary hard drive. The box stated it required Win98SE as the minimum requirement. I'll never know if it was true or not.
So, the difference would appear to be related to software related to hardware.
My experience,
Bryan

I would agree with the above. There's really not much difference between the two. The main thing is that some new hardware/software requires SE.

I see the "original" post #1 from jimc5 has now been pulled.
Better therefore explain that neither myself (#2) or Kailas (#4) are referring to what has now become post #1 (from jubalsams) which is a perfectly reasonable and helpful response to the original post.

I would consider win98se as there atempt to charging you for service packs and updates! I'm suprised they didn't have windows xp se! lol
