HI

I did a windows 98 se clean install and after i installed my motherboard drivers because i have on board sound and after i installed it asked me to restart my computer so i did. When it was loading windows it said(While Inictilizing Device Configmg: Windows protection error. you need to restart ur computer) so did and i have to boot up in safe mode avery time. Here is all my hardware thats in my computer

CPU: 1GHZ Duron well cooled
HD: 20GB Maxtor 5200 RPM
Video card: Geforce 4 4600 w/128 DDR
drives: (1)48x (1)40x20x48 CD-RW (1)Floppy
Network Card: D-Link-10/100MB
Motherboard: ECS K7S5A without Lan

All the drivers i have installed are the motherboards.So do u think it's has somthing to do with the motherboard and or it's driver???? I have installed the latest Bios and driver for it and it sill messes up so if u can help plz im not really a computer wizz so i don't know alot of stuff. THX

In safe mode,,,go into device manager & see what QUESTION and EXCLAMATION marks you find & against which devices & post a message back with details.

HI thx for the replie. But the wierd thing is there are no quesion or exclamation marks in there. Iv'e been told to look for it by others but i get nothing it's really weird.
is there antoehr way to find out if there is a problem??? Thx

Ok,,this is another way,,,
When u start the computer, tapp f8 key & do a set by step confirmation form the start up menu,,,this way you will need to keep hitting the enter key till you get to a stage where the system will point you to the problem area.

Get back to us once finished doing this & tell us where you you found the problem.

Thx for the replie but with my motherboard when press f8 it will bring up the boot options. sorry i don't know what to do. do u know what i should do? Thx

You are staring at it Casey....
From those options pick the one that says step by step confirmation & keep hitting the enter key. What we are doing is loading each driver one at a time, so at some stage where it can't find a valid file or driver it'll stop with an error message.
Make sure you write down that error message word to word &post it on here.

OK back the problem was with msmouse.vxd, but when i restated again the driver loaded this time. how come sometimes it loads and sometimes it dont?

Go into SAFE MODE & Check it out

Hey mooky i asked bill and he don't even know. lol but even if i go into safe mode how is it going to tell me why sometimes it loades the driver and others it don't?
