Win98 Reports HDD Size Incorrectly

I have a laptop wirth a 30 GB drive. windows is suddenly only showing a 4 GB Drive.
I have ran the anti-virus, nothing. I have run scandisk ...no help. I have also run Fdisk /MBR ...didn't work.

When you boot, what size shows in the BIOS? If it's a 30gb and properly identified there, then the partition table is likely damaged. If you boot with a dos bootdisk, what does FDISK show for partition sizes (choice 4)?

BIOS shows 30GB Fdisk shows 30GB
Windows shows 4GB(Used to show full size)

Scandisk can help you find back the correct hard drive size.Run it from Windows.Good luck.

If scandskw or scandisk isn't doing it for you, get Drive Rescue. (It's free.) There's a windows version and a dos version. If you can't find it on the web, there's a copy in my webspace;
