I am experiencing problems with windows 98 machines grabbing an IP and settings from our DHCP server, but then network connections not available. It is easily remedied with winipcfg release, renew, but what is causing the problem and how can i fix. It started with 2 computers, now there are 5. Our Win2k machines are not affected. Please do not say upgrade to 2k, its on the list of things to do, when budget comes.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I think this is simply a Win98 thing. It often happens when you change certain network settings (such as proxies, IP's, etc.). IPCONFIG > Release > Renew is the simplest and quickest fix for the problem.
