Name: PC Freak
Any suggestions on where I could find drivers for a Lucent Winmodem? That's the only name I have for it. It was taken out of another computer (HP) a while ago and just recently put into this PC. I also saw the name Agere on the chipset. I have downloaded tons of drivers and none have worked. I tried drivers from DriverGuide.com, Agere.com, http://www.villagegeek.com/techsupport/Drivers.htm, and others through Google searching. I've tried drivers (either zip or exe) named "modem---", where "---" has been 520, 544, 575, 590, 600, and 822. The modem is currently being detected by Win98 as "PCI Communication Device", waiting for me to pick a driver. Everyone I've tried gives me the message saying it's not specifically written for that hardware and may not work. (And none have worked if I made it use the driver anyway) Any ideas on how to find a driver that will work?

The Lucent WinModem driver doesn't install normally. The standard most updated one is: modem8.22.exe. When you install the modem you do not point windows to the driver file. It is a self-extracting file that installs the drivers automatically. Then when you reboot your computer windows will find new pci communication hardware and install the software. If it does not at that point, then point the windows hardware wizard to the c:\windows\temp file because that is where it has extracted to by default.
P.S. There is a link to this driver on my site.

Also these drivers are pretty much standard. I used the same driver on about 3 or 4 different Lucent modems. Some were PCI's and some were ISA's and they still installed the same way by extracting the files and then it ask you if you want to install the drivers for the modem now. I even installed the drivers on a pc that didn't have a lucent modem in because I wanted to test the file before I took it to the problem pc. The driver will work if you don't tell windows to find it for you.

Just downloaded modem822.exe... Ran it, it installed drivers, then I rebooted, it detected the PCI Communication Device, but won't accept the drivers. It say no suitable driver was found, and if I point it to C:\[windir]\TEMP, it won't use the drivers there. Any other ideas?

Are there any names and numbers on the chips? I recently was able to get modem drivers by entering this information in the search box for Google!
Also, consider posting this on the Drivers Forum.

Here are some numbers from the card:
FCC Registration #: 2D7USA-35107-M5-E
Model 90109The chipset had this info on it:
Agere
1648C-TV3
SEEV 01175
9959725I couldn't find an FCC ID# anywhere. I tried searching in Google with some of these, and only found drivers for ME that say they will NOT work in 98.
I've never had so much trouble with one modem...

Did some searching with the chipset numbers, and found this. I guess the part# you'r looking for is DSP1648C
http://www.agere.com/client/modem_dsp.html
Hope it's of any help.Greetz from The Netherlands,
The Count

I don't think that's the one, since this one isn't V.92.
Oh well... I guess I be giving up on this one for now... Back to that lousy HSP56 thing...
Thanks to all who tried to help!

One more weird thing I've noticed: That "PCI Communication Device" that was being detected wasn't even the Lucent Winmodem! It had to do with an integrated junk modem that I had (somewhat) removed a long time ago. So that means that both Windows 98SE and XP are acting as if the modem isn't there. Rats... I may mess with it again sometime, but not any time soon...

Given this new information, I can tell you I ran across this exact same thing not to long ago building a new PC. It came with one of those standard "JUNK" HSP56k (10 pin)riser modem. I took it out, and installed my last ISA Lucent modem. I got that exact same error. Looking in the book it told me it was used for the wave device of the voice modem, and even if you installed another modem you still needed this. It used up more resource IRQ than I had planned and I had to remove the network card. But if you really want to disable this part of it, there should be a jumper somewhere on the mother board to do it.

I have that exact problem right now and need help.
I upgraded the OS from 98 to XP and kept getting the pci message so i reverted back to 98 but still receive the same message. I can't get rid of the message trying a few drivers including the original one.
Any idea guys?
