I have a problem that hopefully someone can help with. I have searched all over and cannot find a solution. When I boot up, and you are supposed to get the win98 logo screen(cloud background) my screen just goes black. I want to replace the logo screens, but cannot even get them to show up. I went into msdos.sys and added Logo=1, but it didn't work. Could someone please help?
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa..
I believe the file you are referring to is called LOGOW.SYS, located in the Windows system directory.
Additionally, there is LOGOS.SYS
These are the default start and shutdown bitmaps.
You can get premade replacements from just about any theme set. Extract the file you want, and replace the default filename with it.
Hope that gets you headed in the direction you want.....

LogoW.sys is the 'Wait while windows shutsdown' screen.
LogoS.sys is the 'Windows has shutdown'
screen.
The startup screen is either inbedded in c:\io.sys or is a 'c:\logo.sys' file.
Do a search for those files and you can find instructions on how to set up your own.

Hi lisa:
You might want to get this program called Desktop Architect,With this theme changer,You will be able to change your Logos ,sound ,Icons and other things...check it out..

Hello
I sent you a few logo files and guidance
but the email has returned; please post me a
message with a valid e-mail address.Stefan

I assume you changed the attributes for Msdos.sys, in the root directory of your C:, so it's not set to Read Only and opened it with Notepad. Adding Logo=1 was OK.
In additition to response #2;
These files are standard 256 color Windows bitmap files with dimensions of 320(w) x 400(h). You can use basically any image editing program to change them (as long as it supports BMP files).
Warning: Before getting started make sure to take a backup copy of all three files (LOGO.SYS may or may not already exist).
1. Copy LOGOW.SYS and LOGOS.SYS to a temporary folder, and rename their extensions to .BMP
2. Using your favorite graphics editor, open the files and modify them to your liking.
3. Once your finished, save the files, change their extensions back to .SYS, and copy them back over the original files in the Windows directory (which you've already backed-up) and you're done.
Alternatively you can create three new BMP files for each screen, just make sure that the proportions of 320(w) x 400(h) are maintained. The file once finished should be 129,078 bytes.
Hope this is of any use.

The Count
