Comment:
Im trying to reinstall win98 on a system that was running 2000, dunno where my 2000 disk is:(. I formatted the hard drive and set an active partition. Everything goes pretty smooth untill after the scan disk. Scan disk runs fine. After it finishes it says remove any floppy disk and reboot. So I do and it says non system disk error replace disk and press any key. Well that does nothing. What should I do now. Oh yeah even though I formatted the hard drive it still says I have os files on it. Before I run scan disk it says autoexec.bat and config.sys are on the hard drive overwriting will turn them back to their basic file state. Does that make sense to anyone?

Did you completely remove Windows 2000 and start with a "Clean" install of Win98? I've never had much luck installing Win98 on top of Win2000/XP. If you used the NTFS file system for Windows 2000, you HAVE to start over from a Bootdisk, FDISK, FORMAT, etc.

Start from scratch. Run fdisk and delete all partitions, repartition, format and install. Check the Howtos on the left side of this page.
