Nope, you shouldnt unless you specify to format the drive.
But just to be sure (i havnt done this for a while) heres a fail-safe way:
before installation, wack your win98 CD into the drive and reboot.
Let the computer boot from the CD, at the first menu select "boot from CD".
At the second menu select "start computer with CD ROM support. You should be dropped to a dos prompt.
at the prompt type "del c:\windows\winver.exe then press enter. Secondly type "del c:\windows\win.com
then type d:\setup.exe (changing D:\ to the letter of your CD Rom drive)that should start setup and you should be right from there and all data will stay intact.
also when setup asks what directory to install windows select c:windows.
Have fun and i hope this helped.

Also a less technical way if you run win98 setup from within windows95 your data should also stay intact

Deleting Winver.exe isn't necessary, & I would rename win.com, rather than delete it. If you should run into a snag (though it's doubtful that you will) you can rename Win.com back & should be able to reboot into Win95.
