That's Microsoft's general fault error message and I had them until I went to a clean install with the full version of Win98 on a clean HD. Or you recently installed a program, it could have replaced or changed a file that Win98 needed which is producing the error. You are using a good Uninstaller program aren't you? Use Win98's "System Information" program that should tell you which files have been moved, changed, deleted or added and you might be able to find the problem that way.

These error messages can occur if your computer uses a sound card based on the C-Media CMI8330 sound chip. This sound chip is used as the basis for several sound cards.
To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your sound card to obtain an updated driver.
If you are unable to contact the manufacturer of the your sound card, you can try the C-Media Windows 98 sound card driver version 4.10.00.0152 or later available on the following C-Media Web site:
http://www.cmedia.com.tw
Follow the links on this site to the drivers.
If you are unable to obtain an updated driver for your sound card, you can work around this issue by following these steps:
Restart your computer in Safe mode. To do so, restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until you see the Windows 98 Startup menu, and then choose Safe Mode.
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double- click System.
Click the Performance tab, and then click File System.
Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then click to select the "Disable all 32-bit protected-mode disk drivers" check box.
Click OK, and then click OK.
Restart your computer normally.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System, and then click the Device Manager tab.
Double-click the Sound, Video And Game Controllers branch to expand it.
Click your sound card, and then click Properties.
Click to select the Disable In This Hardware Profile check box.
Click OK, and then click OK.

I had this problem and I went to the power managerment in systems and would never let anything shut down by itself and this fix my problem.

When I power up my system, and try to connect to the internet, my puter freezes up. I hit alt+del+ctrl and it say msgsrv32 not responding. If I end the task, then it will dial up, but then my system won't operate properly. How can I fix this problem?

I recently upgraded my machine to a AMD 650 (with FIC Motherboard). I only have my video card, 3.5 inch floppy, hard drive and CD-rom installed. When I try and install windows (I have tried multiple times), I am getting all kinds of errors (blue screens, locking up, etc). I have installed windows several times and I have never encountered this error before. I understand this error is generally due to the modem or sound card (which aren't even installed). Please help me...I'm getting so frustrated.

I have a new system w/ new 98SE install and I get a MSGSVR32 exception 10h in module DEVCON32.DLL, but only on alternate boots. I assume it may be IRQ or soundcard related. Any ideas? Thanks.

Problem Sound Blaster Live and ATI Card

Solution:
1) Boot on Safe Mode
2) Rename devcon32.dll in Windows/system to devcon2.dll
3) Reboot on Normal Mode
4) uninstall ATI Multimedia Center, delete all files of the config
5) Download Live!Ware 3.0 on Creative Web Site
5) Install Live!Ware 3.0
6) Rename devcon2.dll to devcon32.dll
7) Reinstall Original ATI Multimedia Center on the CD of ATI card and replace all files

And now, the system works with no problem.
Good Luck
