Win98 Freezes when connected to the net

Every time I use dialup networking to connect to my ISP, I loose the mouse pointer and the system freezes. Everything worked under 95 but started this nonsense when I went to 98. Same modem, driver etc ...

same thing happened to me, but the mouse thing was solved by first going into control panel/system and making sure that the mouse and the modem are conflicting in ports and irq settings. remember ports 1,3 mirror 2,4 mirror. so you can disable accordingly. Now if that doesn't work then amazingly enough check with youe isp to see if they support the actual "speed" you connect at.even if they do the communications switch that you connect through may not. i had to "downgrade" my modem from v.90 to v.something in order for it to work. here in germany the lines suck so...try it and if not then let me know and i think of something else..
