Win98 freeze after DSL load

Comment:
I loaded DSL software about the same time I was using a file sharing service supported by GAIN (gator advertising and information network). GAIN sent pop up ads all the time.
I dunno which caused the problem, but my PC seems to have limited resources now. I can't play large mp3s- some don't even open. they just say something like "insufficient system resources. close something and try again." OFten, it just locks up, goes to a black screen, and reboots.

Do start > run > msconfig > startup and uncheck anything you don't want (you can always recheck it later). Gain may have stuck in some programs that now run in the background.

Angela,
There are two ways to correct the problem! First, easy way......download adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ or spybot (personal favorite)from http://beam.to/spybotsd Get your system cleaned up first. Also, please tell me that you have an anti-virus program installed and its up-to date? Next unistall your dsl software. Restart your computer then re-install the dsl software. Second, Hard-way get someone to reformat for you. And then reinstall everything. This often is the best way to know that all that crap from file sharing is gone.
