Hello, I'm booting on my laptop WinXP, Win98, and Ubuntu using PowerQuest's BootMagic. And everything boots up nicely...
The problem is that Windows 98 can't detect my screen and video card drivers and I'm reduced to 16 colors at 640x480 and my Sound Card isn't working (except for midi). It's obvious that there weren't any 98 drivers intended for my hardware... but is there anything I can do to get things going?
-OR-
Can I just have DOS installed in a partition as an OS, rather than having DOS through 95/98?
My WinMe disc was too damaged to complete the installation, I wonder if the same results would've happen?
Thanks.

DOS is an actual Operating System, and there are plenty of 'flavours', some more limited than others
Your intentions are far from clear

It appears this laptop is old enough you should be able to find drivers for everything on it.
However, we need more info from you if we're going to suggest where you can get drivers.
Panasonic CF-W2 is not enough information.
We need the whole model number
e.g. CFW2AWAZZDM
so that we can look up the computer's specs.

... maybe you don't realize it, but 3 days with no response from the OP is a pretty good indication they won't be back.
I know, they didn't give you quite enough for you to pen one of your rambling, 'creatively' spelled epics (mainly of interest only to yourself) but I am sure there will be other opportunities for you to gratify that obsessive & compulsive nature.
btw - your 'origin story' the other day was just... fascinating - hard to imagine anyone else who could puff up the normally simple, single-sentence explanation of one's username (it's just a nickname given to you some time ago, reflecting an assumed predilection for electronics) into a 16 paragraph opus.
You must be fun at parties

jboy is right.
In addition, you should be aware that DOS (7.1) in 95/98, while fully capable of running 16- and 32-bit code, was only designed as a bootstrap for 95/98 to get the system running. It wasn't intended as a standalone operating system, although you can start in MS-DOS mode.
