Are there any site that have downloads availible to byass a windows 98 companion cd? I bought a computer a while ago and it came with a companion cd, and then i got a a junk computer for a project and dont feel like spending more money on another win98 cd just to get it work, please help!

There was a Windows 95B Companion CD. I`ve never heard of a W98 Companion CD. It`s not a Restore or Recovery CD for a specific brand of computer is it?

I agree with possum...I've heard of a Win95 Companion CD, but not a Win98 version. If what you have is the Win95 Companion, go here to download the missing Setup files. If you have a Win98 recovery CD, I'm afraid you're SOL.
You MIGHT be able to get around the problem by taking the HD out of the "junk" computer & temporarily installing it into the PC that the recovery CD is made for. (Unplug the "good" computer's HD & install the other one as primary master.) Then go ahead & install Windows.
The VERY LAST THING before you shut down the computer:
Open regedit & navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ENUM & delete the key. This will cause Windows Registry to dump all of the hardware information. Shutdown the PC, remove the HD, reinstall it into the "junk" PC, & boot it up.
Windows will detect & (hopefully) install the new hardware. You'll need the CD, unless you've copied the .CAB files onto the HD.
HTH
