I'm doing a clean install on a computer. The only full version of win I have is win95. I will be upgrading as soon as I get win95 installed. I formatted the hdd and started install of win95. All files copied fine, no errors. When it resarted the comp to run win for the first time, it gives me the option to run in safe mod or norm. It makes no diff which I choose, it tells me "While initializing device IOS: Windows protection error. You need to restart your comp." I havew done this several times and get same error message. I have never had this problem before doing a clean install. please help

You need to restate a few things. In the post title, you said,
""Win95/98 problem""
Then, in your question, you said:
""I'm doing a clean install on a computer. The only full version of win I have is win95""
What I infer from that is, you are REALLY trying to install '98, you are doing a clean install, and you have a '98 upgrade, and a 95 "full install."If so, get yourself a '98 bootdisk, making sure that the fdisk and format command are on there, and run fdisk, make sure the drive is FAT32 instead of FAT16, and if so, do a "format/q" (quick format) to get rid of 95. Now, just do a clean install from your '98 upgrade disk, and at some point, the process will ask you for proof that you have 95. Temporarily substitute your '95 cd and it will go right on.
