Hi! I'm trying to establish a dialup connection for a friend. Tech support is as clueless as me and I hope someone here can help me. The connection window pops up like normal and I type in my username/password. It dials up fine, but when it gets to the 'verifying name and password' point, a second 'user logon' box pops up, asking me to type my user name/password again. It will NOT accept the password. I have talked to my ISP tech support and they've reset the password a zillion times, but this second box keeps popping up. They've suggested reinstalling 95 (which has been done, unsuccessfully) and/or adding more RAM. I don't see how RAM will help me connect (though I definitely think it will speed up the computer), since I know people with 16RAM who have no problem with connecting. Advice? Suggestions? If it was my computer, I'd have thrown it out the window and bought a new one by now. That's my solution :)

I believe that this is just one of those things that happen usually when you just started to use a fresh windows 95. What this box does, is basically make a logon name for whoever that is using this computer(this is something windows 95 asks for, not isp), it will not affect you at all connecting to the internet.

The solution to get rid of it, is to enter a name/login name(any name will do) and click ok. It should not happen ever again.

Try going to My Computer/Dialup Networking and setting up a new connection. Then go to Control Panel/Internet/Connection/Settings and select the new connection you just created. You may not be using Earthlink but maybe this will help. http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/psc/img/walkthroughs/windows_9x_nt/dialers/dun_1.3/0522.2v.configure.psc.html

Hi again. Thanks for the quick feedback! To Tim: I did try to use another password in the second box when the internet password didn't work, but it made no difference. I got an error box: error 635 (my ISP says it is an 'unknown error' message--really helpful). I double-checked the 'Password' option in Control Panel to make sure there were no other existing passwords (my windows logon/password is blank/blank). To Glenn C: I am using a local ISP, Vianet. Also, I checked out the Earthlink site and I've already done everything mentioned there.
