I currently have win95 osr2.5 up and running fine. Is upgrading to win98 really worth it. I get conflicting answers all over the web. I've tried it at work and it seems so much slower, with the exception of better driver support?

I recently upgraded from Win '95 2.50c to Win '98. I very much appreciated the ease of installing hardware, but found the "user friendly" web-like interface very, very annoying. Anyone who has viewed the Windows folder as a web page knows what I mean. There is far too much confection and it is very hard to strip the OS down to a lean and mean computing machine. In the end I went back to '95, as I had long ago settled any hardware problems I might of had.
stick to win95 at all costs!!! win 98 is FAR too unstable, in fact I find that it crashes faster than a woman driver!?! i have had huge problems from 98 which has twice meant a complete format and reinstall (which also lost me over 30Mb of porn) i have now gone back to 95 and vow to stay there, at least until 98 OSR2 comes out, if at all

I went from Win95 to 98 also. Haven't had a problem yet, but I spent time making it work the way I wanted. It's like a kid, sometimes will mind, sometimes you have to whip it.
Summary: Just wanted to see what people thought. I've used both operating systems and find Win95 to be a more stable system than Win98, but Win98 has more features than Win95. What do you think??? ...
Summary: I installed win98 over win95 on my 486 w/pentium overdrive chip. I made the STUPID mistake of removing the old win95 files before I evaluated win98 properly. The machine runs slower now then w/win95...
