You need Windows 95 version 4.00.950C for USB to work. Even then, it's not very reliable from what I hear.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

USB is only supported on Win95 B & C - but only after a fashion. Add-on USB cards are not supported, only motherboard ports.

Your best bet might be to slave the drive to working system (with an adapter) and copy the installation files to the drive - if you have a network interface, even simpler

The adapters aren't expensive - without a working CD or NIC, the only other option would be to connect via the parallel port (LPT1) with the appropriate cable, and transfer the files using Direct Cable Connect or (even simpler) something like FileMaven (free, DOS interface) or LinkMaven (trial, Windows interface)

It's probably not feasible to get the external CD drive working under Win95 - - you're not exactly new to computers, so you must realize that there are only so many ways

You can take a look at this page, describing your USB options under Win95 - but you'll likely agree, it's a bit of an iffy prospect.

Transferring the files via the printer port would take under an hour, but you would require the correct cable: 'parallel file transfer cable' aka 'laplink cable'

hi guys thx for the help
ill try and explain this a bit clearer, i am not new to computers as having being trained to be a network admin later in my life i know lots about computers but i came to a halt when i got this laptop, no cdrom or floppy and usb isnt supported, i would try the above mentioned dcc(direct cable connection)_ method as i have the cable but the laptop dosnt have that feasture installed and, guess what, you need the cdrom to install it, so im at the beginning, is it pobbiel to open it up and take out the hdd and put it in a working pc and reload windows or anything?
its not the normal sized laptop with a 8.4" screen and very very thin, im shocked it even has a hdd
thx a lot

Regardless of what you may have been training to do, I've seen you post in most of the forums here, so I would imagine you have some familiarity with computers & operating systems by now, despite your years

As far as DCC, links to alternative software were provided, which can be installed via diskette.

A number of options have been presented, as well as informative links from The Count - I'm not sure what is expected, but if your machine isn't fully functional, you will have to pursue less convenient methods
