I have a problem with an old pc I was updating. It has windows 95 on it and I was updating Internet explorer to 5.5 and all went fine, then I updated the active desktop and the background went all white. Everything works fine besides that. It didn't affect the icons or nothing but I cannot get anything but a white desktop. Wallpapers don't work, Appearance tab doesn't care what color I try and make it it still stays white.
Any Ideas on fixing this?

Depending on which version of Windows 95 you have, Active Desktop was not available unless you installed IE version 4 ( this also gave the Quick Launch toolbar )
I think Windows 95 C was the first version to have Active Desktop included.
Then you can upgrade to IE 5.5 over the top of IE 4.Krystyna

It may be difficult to now find IE4 to download...here is a Thai site that looks to have it, but it may be a dodgy site !
http://www.inet.co.th/download/ie4/The other choice is to find an old Microsoft CD that might have it...like Encarta or Office.
Bonne chance

I just did this yesterday. You cannot do it with internet explorer 4 anymore. Only with 5 or 5.5. It can be installed on any version of win95. I have installed it on at least 10 old computers this past month. I have a post on installing the desktop update but until now I never had a problem.

This might be simplistic (i.e. dumb),
I had the same problem in win98.
Active desktop wallpaper is different from standard, at least in application. Probably just the settings. Just re-apply a background.

Already tried it before posting and that didn't work either. You can see the wallpaper or color background just before the desktop loads but as soon as it comes up it all goes white.
