Comment:

When starting w95 on 9-9-99 the comp stops and shows: error, can't find nwlink.vxd. Press any key to continue. It then shows another *.vxd file it can not find. After several key prsses it finally loads W95 but it is working correct. 'Find' can not find these files in any of my drives. Please help.

Hi Max:nwlink.vxd is a driver for Windows IPX.SPX compatable protocal. VXD=virtual device driver.I sent you one by e-mail.....just install it in c:\windows\system....if you need any more just post their names....Your problem is a fairly common one....

unless you have a reason to be running ipx/spx , by trying to get round the problem by finding the vxd you are attacking the symptom rather than the problem . nwlink is for use with novell networks and is called for if you have ipx/spx installed in your networking applet in control panel.
have a look in there to see if ipx/spx protocol is installed. if it is then remove it and the system won't require nwlink.
however if it is the ONLY protocol attached to an adapter then you should first install tcp/ip on it ( unless you know you need something else ) before you remove ipx/spx.

Try this site, it seems these drivers are from previous editions of windows or something. I am running winME and had the same problems, I downloaded these individually and installed them,

  RESOLUTION
NOTE: If you have previously set up Dial-Up Networking and have added items such as phone numbers, TCP/IP settings, and other protocols, record the information before
you remove the Dial-Up adapter. Do the same for Network Adapter properties information if a network adapter is listed in Network properties.
To resolve this problem, remove and then reinstall Dial-Up Networking. To do so, follow these steps:

In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab, and then click Communications.
Click Details, and then click the Dial-Up Networking check box to clear it.
Click Close, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart Windows, do so.
In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab, and then click Communications.
Click Details, and then click the Dial-Up Networking check box to select it.
Click Close, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart Windows, do so.
If any additional protocols are needed, add the protocols using the Network tool in Control Panel.
NOTE: Check with your system administrator or Internet service provider to determine the required settings for Dial-Up Networking and TCP/IP.

I'm receiving a similar error - missing nwnblink.vxd. After receiving some help from one of my professors, I replaced the file, but this didn't fix the problem. The message changed slightly in startup, but otherwise no change. I have not experienced any chages in Windows' performance whatsoever - my DNN still functions normally. I have, however, recently reinstalled my modem pc card. But as before, I have not had any changes in performance. I have the message at startup, I hit a key to continue, but after that, no problems. Any ideas? please respond to my email.

I got the 'missing nwblink.vxd' error on startup after I installed netbios over IPX/SPX for my network adaptor. I was prompted for the Win98 CD, but couldn't be bothered with a restart (for various reasons) so cancelled - after this the error appeared - I completed installation by removing netbios over IPX/SPX and then putting it back in, using the CD when prompted and restarting - hope this helps somwhow.
