I have a problem with my Goldstar crd-8240B cd rom drive and win95. I have a pentium 200 mmx, with a VXPRO+ chipset. THe drive is IDE and the problem is that it will not run audio cds .. any other cd works fine. But audio cds make the drive rev up to the max motor speed and the system locks until i hit eject. its hooked to the sound card. It is hooked up as the Primary IDE drive because my HD are SCSI. I need help .. Win95 is a pain the ass..
Bill
P.S. I had trouble just getting the drive to work at all .. I had to run REGEDIT, and delete an item called "NOIDE" in one of the submenus to remove the "!" from my HD controller drivers

Hi,
Because CDROMs not need any software to play audio CD I think it might be hardware problem of your CDROM. Try to disconnect ribon data cable from CDROM and leave power supply connector attached. Then turn on computer and insert audio CD. If your CDROM shows the same behavior I think it's harwdare problem and you need to change your CDROM. (If your CDROM has its own Play button on the fron panel, you can try to start playing Audio CD and hear the sound via headphones jack at the front panel of CDROM.)
Good luck, Igor M

ho i have a problem with my goldstar crd-8160b also it will not run cd rewrites it wont recognize that there is a cd in the drive when i put a cd in it is it possibly not compatible with the cdrw's or is it my cd rom drive?

Dear SIR: I have a problem which just ocurred this week. I did not have problems for several months until now. Windows does not recognize my CD-ROM. If I boot up in the MSDOS mode then the D drive which is my CD-ROM is indicated. In normal boot up with Windows 95 my CD rom disappears. I have tried an autodetect and a manual install of the CD-ROM driver which should be in WIndows/System/ path. I can place a CD in the CD-ROM but it stops there. I need to find out if I can Download a new driver for my CD-ROM since the driver can not be found????? PLease help.

My cd-rom plays audio cds but will not play any other programs. Every time I put a game cd in it nothing happens. If I use the run option my system doesnt even recognize there is a cd in the drive. what's up with that?

I Have a gold star cdrom crd-8160b I need drivers and what ever as the computer it came with had a blank har drive with two drive plugs on the mother board and one on the audio board. I want to run 4 har drives off the mother board and the cd rom off the audio board but no instructions on how to do it or any drives.
Thanks for any help
Denis Eley

I have a problem with my Goldstar CRD-8240B also. It will not play any audio CD's or software CD's either. It doesn't do a thing. When I click on the icon in My Computer Is says Q:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready. My CD-ROM still Doesn't work to this day. If anyone has some edvice for me or drivers you can give please ICQ me at 27460207. If you do not have ICQ you can download it at www.icq.com. Thank you for any help you can give.

I want to make music CD copies but when I run the test that comes with HP7200i simple the 8240b reports that it transfers at 136 Kb/s. What the hell is happening its supossed to have a better performance 1 up to 24X

For random read errors with the Gold Star cd-rom drives goto: support.packardbell.com
click on downloads then cdrom drive then look for goldstar cd-rom drivers. You don't have to have a Packard Bell for this to work. Trust me.

I have GCD-R542B 4x, which can not read my rewrittable CD disk. I ask you what I can do to let this CD read it. Change driver or something els?

Most CD-ROMs cannot read CD-RW and even some low-quality CD-Rs. I know my Goldstar CRD-8240B can't. In fact, it has trouble reading anything at all!

my goldstar cd rom used to work!!!
But now it won't recognize cd roms at all
windows 95 replys: With D:\ drive not accessible but everything shows up fine ??
