Hello, I need help with the following.

When I try to boot my computer it displays the following messages at the prompt:

"A device file that specified in the system.ini file is damaged. It may be needed to run windows. You may need to run the windows setup program again. If the file is included in another software package, you may need to reinstall the software that uses the file: c:\windows\system\vmm32\vwin32.vxd"

I reinstalled Win95, rebooted and then received the following message:

"Windows could not combine VxDs into a monolithic file before starting. Windows may not run properly."

Then the system displayed the same first message described above, but this time the message implied problems with these files in the C:\windows/system/vmm32 directory: vcond.vxd, vxdldr.vxd, vpicd.vxd, vtd.vxd, vmcpd.vxd, ntkern.vxd, and vpicd.vxd.

Then finally this message appears:

"Config manager cannot load because the following files are not present or have an invalid version #: vmm.vxd, shell.vxd, vtd.vxd, vxdldr.vxd and vpicd.vxd"

Then after a few minutes the computer shuts down altogether.

(I cannot access safe mode)

Thank you,
Glenn imat@magicnet.net

The first error is because by default win95 does not install the usb supplement, hence the universal serial bus controller cannot work, hence the report on the missing file. For subsequent errors i'm not sure. the usb supplement is found in the win95 cd rom.U need to install it.

I just installed a new sound card and apon restarting my computer I recieved the same message as above:
Config manager cannot load because the following files are not present or have an invalid version #: vmm.vxd, shell.vxd, vtd.vxd, vxdldr.vxd and vpicd.vxd
my computer also shuts down, I cannot access safe mode, but I can access the command prompt.
