win 98se upgrade

Hi, I helped my friend update his laptop from win98 to win98Se and since then he claims it dosent shut down,,it just hangs.I know I dont have the specifics but if someone has a generic suggestion it would be appreciated.Thanx
enter msconfig. remove unwanted items from starting up with windows.

Go to start>run and type in msconfig in the open box. When it comes up click on Advanced Tab and put a check mark in "Disable fast shutdown" exit out and restart your computer.

Try as Dusted1 says first.
You can then try and change the settings in Power Management. Set to Never, Never, Never.
If you installed an anti-virus program ensure the setting to check floppy upon shutdown is not enabled in the program.

Thanx everyone,First thing I did way before this problem when my friend first got his laptop was turn off alot of things running in the background.As far as this problem I forgot the advice about disable fast shutdown,, I ended up changing the anti virus to not check floppy on shut down.This seemed to make the laptop shutdown in a timely matter.Thanx again!
