Good afternoon,
I have an IBM Thinkpad 760ED, with Win 98SE, a Megahertz PCMCIA modem card (#XJ-CC5560, 56k) and...32Mb RAM so far!
The 32Mb: 16 Mb module in one of the slots, and 16 built in to the adaptor that came with the computer.
I bought another 32Mb RAM module, from Kingston, supposedly specifically for the 760ED. This should give 64Mb total.
To be complete:
(Kingston #KTM760ELD/32. OR IBM equivalent P/N 92G7342)
If you have 64Mb of RAM in your system, is everything okay?
For me, I have problems, in any slot configuration with the new memory in it.
Upon startup 64Mb is displayed, correctly.
-First of all, my pc-card modem remains in Modems in Control Panels, but vanishes from Device Manager! So I cannot use my modem.
-Also a pcmcia cardbus controller (1 of 2) is disabled, sometimes.
-If I first remove, then reinstall the modem, then ANY port I install it to does not work: "could not open port" is the error when testing, and "modem not found" when trying to dial.
-The registry sometimes becomes faulty, but repaired by Windows. Once I got the "blue screen of death" treatment, but rebooted successfully.
-Other small things, like windows opening behind other windows. Strange things.
If I remove the memory, and reinstall the modem, it works. I've done the cycle many times.
I've replaced the new memory with another one in case it was a faulty module. Same results.
Any ideas or tips from your experiences?
Thank you very much for your help, as I'm really stuck on this one.
Paul
