Win 98 Splash Screen Freeze Startup

Windows 98 splash screen freezes and will not start up. Run in safe mode, then restart again and sometimes it boots o.k. acter several attempts Now it will not boot at all. Just locks up on Win 98 splash screen with the bottom blue swish freezing.

I'm no techie. Any advice?

press the esc key when you see the see the windows boot screen ,while windows is booting it will shut the boot screen off and alow you to see what the computer is loading or running.

I had that problem it was that power managment was trying to run two instances. look in the congfiguration files for programs that run at start up. I also found that the virus scanner was trying to run two instantces as well. I shut off the second running of both programs and that fixed the boot problem.
