Win 98 se - modem - com2

Comment:
We were running Win 98 SE and have an internal 56k modem. After our hard drive was partitioned (due to various problems) and Win 98SE reloaded, the computer recognizes the modem but puts it on com2 (whereas before it was on com3) When you go into the advanced section of properties there is a drop down box for the com ports but it only lists port 2. Can anyone help us as we are pretty much novices and cannot contact the person who reloaded the software for assistance. Many thanks

Carl, I don't object to having it on com 2- it will not function on com 2.

Com port 1 and 2 are physical ports on the PC. Com port 3 is a virtual port for the internal modem. Do you have the drivers for the modem? If so remove the modem from device manager and reboot the PC then use then drivers disk when it is asked for and hopefully it will put the modem on com port 3.
On my PC it is on com port 2. As I have only com port 1 as a physical port so Com port 2 on mive is a virtual port for the modem.
