Comment:

when i tried to install a second nic on a computer for intenet sharing (on win 98 se), there was a system error that popped up... i canceled out and continued with the installation -- i know that was a stupid thing to do. since then the internet is not working at all. i've tried the following w/o success, can anyone suggest anything else:

uninstalled the second nic
installed other nic's
used static ip information
restored url.dll, winsock.dll, and wsock32.dll from the cab files
restored older internet explorer - 5.01
removed all the stacks (tcp/ip, network adaptor, etc) from the network setting and added them back on

another weird thing is that when i use dhcp, it does grab the ip setting correctly, but i can't ping by domain name. but it does work if i ping by public ip addrs. but when i put in the dns settings statically, i can ping via domain names (ie www.yahoo.com). but neither setting will allow me to connect to the internet. i can also browse the network neighborhood and trasfer files. what else can i do, pls help....

sincerely,

presto

You didn't mention setting up your DNS configuration. You'd be able to ping and see stuff on the network, but I suspect you'll need to tweak your DNS config and (depending on your connection to the Internet), your gateway.
