Comment: Hi, I just formatted my friends computer and am trying to instal Windows 98. After the setup and windows runs for the first time it tries to install all the hardware it detects...well It can't find any of the required .dll files it needs on the Win 98 CD. Can someone tell me what is the path to these files. Also I am trying to instal sympatico and it cannot find any of the files to install their modem. please help Thanks in advance

The files your friend is needing can not be found on the Windows 98 disks, they are the driver files Windows needs for all the Hardware your friend has installed, some like the monitor use Windows basic monitor driver but his soundcard, modem, graphics card etc etc will all need to be either found from the makers web site or re installed from his disks that came with the hardware itself.

Reply: (edit)I am missing himem.sys and i was trying to reinstall win98.It told me that I have to have the upgrade of win98.How can I erase the harddrive and reinstall win98 fresh.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the help, but I solved my problems. Apparently the Net7.cab, Net8.cab, Net9.cab and Net10.cab didn't get installed in the right place on my system or not installed at all. So I used the extract tool and extracted the .cab files from the win98 folder on the CD to the C:\Windows\System folder on my system and all is good now.
