Comment: Hi there, I've been for several days now trying to get my computer going. My last effort involved reformatting the hard drive and and reinstalling Windows 98. No success. When I got to that window that says of a restart in 15 seconds I clicked restart. The next thing I got was an advisory to run scandisk because of an improper shut down of Windows. After this completed I was advised to run scanreg. The registry checker ran into a problem it couldn't fix in Windows/System.dat and asked to delete some files or install Windows into a different directory. I think I then pressed OK and found myself at the c prompt. I tried typing Win command and went to the regchecker routine again. Wehn clicked OK out of that it blue screened "Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VWin32(01)+ 00000714 to device "0009", sevice 1. Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run Windows setup program again to correct this problem. It said if I continued running Windows it could be unstable. At this point I restarted from a boot disk and tried to reinstall Win 98. It found no problems with its Scandisk routine. I decided to take out the sound card thinking their might be a confusion when trying to detect it. I also chose to save existing MS-DOS and Windows/System files, the last time I didn't. I went through it's plug and play routines and all that and at the 15 second restart warning it went into scan disk because of improper shutdown of windows like it did before. It also went through the scanreg with the same results as before. It blue screened with the same info as above and when I selected N it went to a weird screen with what looks like a piano keyboard across the top. And that's the end of the story for now. This is an exasperted call for help. Thanks Brian

Reply: (edit)My first guess would be a RAM problem. If you have two RAM modules I would try removing one.
